For me, the strength of relief printing derives from the ultimate contrast between dark and and light, closely followed by its required emphasis on drawing. Colour can be introduced, either watercolour washes or multi-block designs, to leaven the substance from time to time, but one always hankers to return to the raw impact of black on white. As a medium it will not satisfy all that an artist requires but every so often it emerges as the perfect solution.
